International Developments in Digital Government: Government Perspective
The practice of Digital Government takes quite different forms in different countries. In the US, for example, there is no official centralized government DG program; rather, different administrations approach government information management in different ways (e.g., the Clinton-Gore Administration devised its own initiative for reinventing government with the National Performance Review, and the Bush-Cheney Administration follows the President’s Management Agenda.
In the EU, the government’s position is somewhat different than the United States, with the strategies of some countries being considerably more centralized and coordinated than others.
In China, the national government’s State Information Center has formulated detailed plans for government development of IT, and has funded ambitious research programs to enable sophisticated Digital Government of the future.
In this panel, government experts from various countries describe how they experience the evolution and application of Digital Government, what they think about the particular form it takes for them, and how they would like to see it evolve in the future.
This panel is paired with a companion panel, titled “International Developments in Digital Government: Research Perspective,” in which researchers in DG address Digital Government from their point of view. The research panel’s focus is on the possibilities for Digital Government in the future, given current capabilities and short- and medium-term research plans.
