Global Climate Change Keynote Panelist
Robert C. Worrest, Center for International Earth Science Information Network
Dr. Worrest is currently on detail from the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University to the U.S. Geological Survey as Chief Scientist for the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII). Prior to that, he was the Director of the U.S. Global Change Research Information Office (GCRIO) and remains a member of the Communication Working Group of the Global Roundtable on Climate Change (Columbia University Earth Institute). Dr. Worrest has more than 30 years experience in ecological research and assessment related to environmental change and variability, and has numerous publications regarding the effects of stratospheric ozone depletion on the biosphere. He is a member of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Assessment Panel on Environmental Effects of Ozone Depletion, and co-authored the chapter "Research and Systematic Observation," in the U.S. Climate Action Report 2002: Third National Communication of the United States of America Under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. In addition, he contributed to the Climatic Impact Assessment Program related to potential impacts of SSTs on the ozone layer and was a member of the U.S. delegation for the UNEP Coordinating Committee on the Ozone Layer. In 1997, at the tenth anniversary celebration of the Montreal Protocol, he was awarded a UNEP Global Ozone Award for outstanding service for the protection of the ozone layer. He has also worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and as a Graduate Faculty, Oregon State University, Professor of Radiation Biology.
