Special "Information Polity" Subscription Offer for the DGSNA Members

The DGSNA Board is delighted to announce an agreement with the IOS Press, the publisher of the highly regarded journal "Information Polity". Individual members of DGSNA can obtain copies of the 2007 editions of the journal entirely free.  Starting with the 2008 editions, individual members can subscribe to the journal for a discounted rate of US$75 per year (print copy) and US$25 per year (online copy).  Student members receive a discounted rate of US$15 per year (online copy).  This special deal starts with the 2008 issues and continues for 2009 and beyond. An announcement regarding this special deal will be made at the dg.o conference in Montreal in May.

Berkman@10

Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School will host Berkman @10 Conference on May 15-16, 2008, in Cambridge, MA, US. Esther Dyson, Yochal Benkler, Reed Hundt, Michael Wriklas, Jimmy Wales and Harvard faculty will discuss a wide range of political, economic and legal issues related to the Internet. ISA Convention 2009

International Studies Association (ISA) Annual Convention will take place on February 15-18, 2009, in New York, NY, US. Digital government researchers may be interested in submitting their proposals to International Communications (ICOMM) section of ISA. Panel and paper proposals are due on May 30, 2008. UMass Network Analysis Workshop

The Center for Research on Families at University of Massachusetts Amherst will host a workshop on Social Network Analysis on May 30, 2008, in Amherst, MA, US. It will introduce a variety of network concepts and will guide participants through different software packages used for network analysis.

ePSIplus Conference

ePSIplus will host a conference on the re-use of public sector information (PSI) in the European Union on June 13, 2008, in Brussels, Belgium. This one day conferences offers an opportunity to engage in a dialogue to discuss and propose recommendations to the European Commission for reviewing the PSI directive. ICT 2008

The event will take place on November 26-27, 2008, in Lyon, France and include an exhibition showing concrete results of research in and around Europe related to information and communications technologies. This call for exhibition ideas is open to any organization involved in European research and development as well as deployment projects and associated support activities. This includes universities, research institutes, non-profit organizations, public authorities and commercial companies including small and medium sized enterprises. HICSS 2009

Call for Papers: Electronic Government Track at the 42nd Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences January 5 to 8, 2009 Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort Waikoloa, Big Island, Hawaii. HICSS conferences are devoted to the most relevant advances in the information, computer, and system sciences, and encompass developments in both theory and practice. Accepted papers may be theoretical, conceptual, tutorial or descriptive in nature. 18th Annual Computers, Freedom, and Privacy Conference

This year, the conference will take place at Omni Hotel in New Haven, CT, on May 20-23, 2008, and is focusing on those issues at the forefront of technology policy this election year. With plenary panels on the "National Security State and the Next Administration" and "The 21st Century Panopticon?" the discussions taking place look towards our present and future priorities. CFP: Technology Policy '08 is an opportunity to participate in shaping those issues being made into laws and regulations and those technological infrastructures being developed. Policies ranging from spyware and national security, to ISP filtering and patent reform, e-voting to electronic medical records, and more will be addressed by expert panels of technologists, policymakers, business leaders, and activists. Grant Opportunities and Awards

NSF CluE initiative

NSF launched new Cluster Exploratory (CluE) initiative, which will provide NSF-funded researchers access to software and services running on a Google-IBM cluster to explore innovative research ideas in data-intensive computing. From this initial solicitation of the CluE initiative, NSF expects to award up to $5 million spread between 10 and 15 awards, depending on availability of funds. SSRC Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship (DPDF)
The Social Science Research Council, with funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, is pleased to announce a call to faculty for interdisciplinary research field proposals for the 2009 Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship (DPDF) program.  Established in 2006, the DPDF combines financial support and workshop experience for early-stage graduate students engaged in predissertation research and developing their dissertation proposals. The DPDF program is designed to intervene at a critical moment in the career development of graduate students in the humanities and social sciences by aiding their transition from students to researchers. It provides complementary interdisciplinary perspectives to students across the disciplines of the social sciences and humanities. Faculty applicants must be tenured at different doctoral degree-granting programs at US universities and apply in teams of two. DPDF Research Directors lead groups of 12 graduate student fellows in two four-day workshops Research directors receive a stipend of $10,000 each.
