DGSNA Joins Transitions in Governance 2008 Project

The Digital Government Society has joined with the Transitions in Governance 2008 Project in helping shape the e-government portion of the agenda for the next U.S. Presidential Administration.  This is an exciting opportunity to participate with a coalition of organizations to broaden the conversation and harvest ideas about the management of the U.S. Government with the intent of developing a consensus on:

  • What management initiatives and strategies have proven effective

  • What ideas are no longer viable, relevant or worth pursuing

  • What more needs to be done and what new needs to be developed

Program Performance and Results

Financial Management and Integrity

Federal Workforce and Human Capital

Sourcing, Acquisition and Partnerships

Electronic Government

Governance

New Government Networks and Partnerships

The Transitions in Governance 2008 Project will be holding a    series of high-profile dialogue sessions around each of the core management issues they have targeted, bringing together  a cross section of government, academia, public policy and other disciplines.

The project will use a web-based survey to develop a comprehensive picture of Federal management’s experiences and ideas going forward.  What are the best ideas for the future and best policy options for the next Administration.

Also a method for generating ideas, the Transitions blog will be a featured link form both coalition organization’s and other websites actively engaging in a dialogue with leaders in management, government. and  academia.

The focus of this activity is to develop a Final Report, a full finding of the groups’ work, survey results and dialogue sessions.  The report will highlight the leading ideas for improving performance as determined by everyone who took part is the project.

DGSNA urges you to add your voice to the Electronic Government portion of the Transitions Project and join in this unique opportunity, with researchers and government, to collectively influence the direction of the next President’s management agenda.

Leadership Retreat Sets Future Direction

On the weekend before dg.o2007, DGS officers, board members, and committee chairs assembled to assess the Society’s first year and to brainstorm ideas to grow and strengthen it in the next year.  Six areas for high-priority attention emerged from the day-long discussion:

  • Fostering organizational growth and stability through membership, sponsorship, and financial strategies

  • Developing a broad societal impact agenda that highlights the importance of digital government principles and developments for society as a whole

  • Enhancing academic impact though advocacy for interdisciplinary research, articulation of core digital government research questions, shared curricula, and support for students

  • Fostering more government-research partnerships to broaden and deepen the connection among government needs, policies and programs and targeted research and evaluation that supports them

  • Creating products and services of value to members such as information repositories, job exchanges, and expertise banks

  • Expanding international cooperation both within North America and with existing and emerging societies in other parts of the world

An electronic survey of members will be conducted later this summer to delve more deeply into these ideas and to generate action plans for 2007-08.
