Want to Contribute to the Next President's E-Government Agenda?
The Digital Government Society has joined Transitions in Governance 2008 Project, a coalition of organizations seeking to generate dialogue and harvest ideas for the next president’s government management agenda. The research and government management expertise of Society members can contribute to the current discussion and eventually to prioritizing the issues for inclusion in a white paper.
A blog has been established on the Transitions in Governance 2008 Project web site under "e-government" with links to more complete information on the DGSociety web site. You can easily navigate from one site to the other to get information and to post your comments.
Take advantage of this opportunity to bridge the conversation between researchers and government managers and to participate in shaping the the next U.S. Administration's management agenda.
DGS Approaches its First Anniversary
The Digital Government Society is approaching its first year anniversary, having accomplished many of its initial goals. The Society has adopted a Constitution, established non-profit status, organized and structured committees, and hosted its first conference, dg.o 2007,”Bridging Disciplines and Domains”. By the end of the conference, 120 paying members were added to the Society’s membership roster. The web site, dgsociety.org, monthly e-newsletter, dgOnline, as well as dg.o 2007 all contributed to establishing the Society’s presence in the e-government community, and DGS will continue to focus on this goal in the coming year.
As the Society looks to its future, important work remains. When the Board and Committee Chairs met prior to the conference in Philadelphia, they focused on defining the broad goals and directions for the next year and beyond. Society President, Sharon Dawes, sums up the set of priorities for the coming year, these include “identifying ways in which DGSNA has societal as well as academic impacts, enhancing the linkages between government managers and researchers, developing valued products and services for DGSNA members, continuing to build the Society, and providing ongoing organizational and financial support for the Society.“
Society Elections
In September, a nominating committee of DGSNA will be formed to nominate candidates for election to the open positions of the Society’s officers and Board. Outgoing President Sharon Dawes will lead this committee. Candidates will be announced on October 15 and online elections will be held in December. New officers will begin their terms January 1, 2008. Offices subject to election this year include President-elect, Treasurer, Secretary and three Board members.
Amendments to the Society’s constitution will be also be considered at this time. If you have suggestions for amendments, please contact any current officer or member of the Board.
